THE CLIMATE REALITY PROJECT

was founded in 2006 by Nobel Laureate and former US Vice President Al Gore to teach people how to educate on Climate Change, and urge others to take action. In 2019, the Climate Reality Capital Region Chapter began with just 5 members and now four years later has grown to a group of over 140 members.  We are continuing the project's mission on the ground in the capital region and Adirondacks.

OUR CHAPTER’S MISSION

We aim to educate the public about climate science and solutions, build coalitions with other climate activists, and conduct issue advocacy campaigns in order to bring about the rapid and just implementation of economy-wide climate solutions at the local, state, and national levels as well as the development of resiliency plans.

MONTHLY CHAPTER MEETINGS

Our chapter holds meetings on the third Wednesday of each month.  We typically have a speaker or two who help us delve a bit more deeply into specific climate issues. We review progress on our various campaigns, which include legislative advocacy and public education, and we plan our upcoming efforts. This is a great way to learn more about climate action in the Capital Region, in New York State as a whole, and at the federal level as well. Our meetings are a great opportunity to meet and learn from others in the climate community.  We hope you join us!  Meetings are generally on Zoom, and they are open to the public - everyone is welcome! Please sign up here to receive notices about upcoming meetings and other events.

ATTEND A CLIMATE REALITY TRAINING

Make a difference by joining the Climate Reality Leadership Corps! The Leadership Corps is a global community of world changers working to solve the climate crisis and build a just and healthy future for the Earth.

The Climate Reality Project hosts training all over the country (and around the world!)

There will be a training this April in New York City - but if you’ve missed it, no worries! You can sign up for a future training here:  Climate Reality Leadership Corps. Whether you’ve attended a training or not, we welcome you to get involved in our work!

JOIN OUR WORK

Each of us brings different interests and talents to the climate movement - that’s what makes us strong! The Capital Region Chapter is involved in lobbying and other legislative efforts, which include rallies and letter writing campaigns. Currently, we are working on NY HEAT, The Climate Superfund Act, and the Renewable Capitol Act. If this kind of advocacy is of interest to you, there are lots of ways to get involved. Our local chapter is part of a vibrant NYS Coalition of Chapters, and members from across the state meet weekly (via Zoom)  to coordinate advocacy for climate legislation.

Throughout New York State, Climate Reality members give presentations in all sorts of venues. We offer talks on climate basics, and we have developed an excellent slide deck to show people how they can take advantage of the many energy efficiency and green energy tax credits and rebates  available through the Inflation Reduction Act, NYSERDA, NYS utilities. We’ve also put together a fantastic set of tabling materials, which are useful for libraries and tabling at public events.

This is just a snapshot of our work. Whether you are brand new to the climate movement or you’re an experienced activist, we have a place for you! If you’d like to learn more, please sign up to join the chapter!  You are welcome to explore and join an existing campaign, or even start one of your own that the chapter can help facilitate.
